I knew Marilyn for more than 20 years from her work at Ives Road Fen Preserve. She and Richard monitored the birds there, daily for many years, every other day until recently. Much of the hiking trail at Ives today started as the route they followed. They were the people to ask if you wanted to know which birds had returned and which were currently active. She also knew a lot about plants, especially unusual plants that hadn’t been seen at the preserve before or special plants in out-of-the-way locations. On several occasions, she alerted me to invasives that needed to be dealt with. She was a source of history about the preserve even from the time before it became a preserve. Her colorful personality could always be counted on to liven things up. Her passing leaves a hole that cannot be filled.
