Obituary of Edna Hewitt
Adrian- Edna Marie Hewitt, age 88, of Adrian, passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2022, at Hampton Manor. Edna was born on November 18, 1933, in Myrtle, MO, the daughter of Jesse and Birdie (Ehrhardt) Caldwell. Edna was a graduate of Roosevelt High School in Ypsilanti and after graduation, she attended Cleary College. On August 18, 1955, in Ypsilanti, she married Robert John Hewitt and he preceded her in death on June 1, 1997. After retiring from Ford Motor Company where she was employed as a secretary for over 30 years, she and Bob moved permanently to Canada Creek Ranch in Atlanta, MI. There they resided in the cabin they vacationed at for more than 50 years. While there she made numerous, longtime friends. She loved attending her grandchildren’s sporting and music events. She was also an avid fan of anything sports, particularly baseball and football. She particularly enjoyed watching the Tigers and Wolverine football. Edna enjoyed gardening, collecting antiques, playing pinochle and bridge, and an occasional trip to the casino to try her luck on the slots. No matter where Edna went, she was quick to make friends. Most importantly, she was a loving and generous, wife, mother, and grandmother.
Edna is survived by her two sons, Derek (Charleen) Hewitt of Adrian and R. Mark Hewitt and his partner, William Swisher of Largo FL; two grandchildren, Katherine “Katie” Hewitt, and John Hewitt; her sister, Ruthie Adams of Ypsilanti; her sister-in-law, Carolyn Hewitt of Grass Lake; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Truman and Hanford “Jack” Caldwell; brothers-in-law, Billy Adams, Edward Hewitt, and Michael Moynihan; and her sisters-in-law, Hazel Caldwell, Jane Caldwell, and Patricia Moynihan. Edna’s family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at Hampton Manor and to Hospice of Lenawee for their exceptional care.
Per Edna’s wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 16, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. with visitation beginning at 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service at Stark Funeral Home in Ypsilanti.
