Obituary of Donald Lee Kerr

Donald L. Kerr, age 89 of Hudson, Michigan passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at Florida Blake Hospital in Bradenton surrounded by his two daughters.  He was born in Clayton, Michigan on February 27, 1933 the son of Art and Florence (Dunlap) Kerr.  He married Joyce Ann O’Bryant on September 13, 1953 in Hudson, Michigan and she preceded him in death.

Don graduated from Hudson High School, class of 1950.  He then enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served 4 years.  Don then began his career with the Hudson Post Office in 1956, where he began as a substitute mail carrier on both rural and city routes.  Later he began as Assistant Postmaster and then in July 1985, he was appointed Postmaster until he retired in January1989 after 37 years of service.

Don was a member of the Hudson American Legion, Hudson Athletic Boosters, Hitch Up & Go Trailer Club, Hudson Barbershop Quartet, Hudson Senior Center and numerous other organizations. He was inducted into the Hudson Hall of Fame 2020-2021.

He enjoyed attending Hudson athletic events as well as filming the varsity football games including the 72 game winning streak.  He spent a lot of time building and flying his radio controlled airplanes. Don also enjoyed wintering in Florida where he called BINGO, did the sing-alongs, and participated in the Sarasota Bay Travelers group.

Don dearly loved his daughters and grandchildren and will be greatly missed by all.

Surviving Don are his two daughters, Brenda Brunet of Wyoming, Michigan and Tammy Acker of Hudson, Michigan; one brother, Dale Kerr of Hudson, Michigan; eight grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren with one on the way; one great-great granddaughter; and his friend, Esther McNair of Adrian, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Kerr; his parents; in-laws; and three brothers.

The Funeral Service for Don will be Friday, March 25, 2022 at 11a.m. at Eagle-Marry Funeral Home, Hudson. Burial will be held in Maple Grove Cemetery.  Visitation will be Thursday, March 24, 2022 from 3-7 p.m. at Eagle-Marry Funeral Home, Hudson.
