Richard Pennington

Obituary of Richard A. Pennington

Morenci - Richard Arden Pennington was embraced in the loving arms of his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, March 16, 2022.  His earthly race finished at a "young" 88 years.

Richard was the first born son to his parents, Clair Pennington and Theola (Ziegler) Pennington, arriving August 27, 1933 in Chesterfield, OH.  He graduated in 1951 with his high school class at Chesterfield-Dover High School.

Richard fell in love with the "girl next door".  On December 27, 1953, he married his sweetheart, Marvolene Schoonover.  Their beautiful 67-year romance was focused on loving God and loving each other.  Together they served the Lord and ministered to others in the church and throughout the community.  Richard's wonderful legacy is marked by his generosity of both time and treasure, a heart for service, joy in his heart, laughter, funny songs, and "I'm so thankful for the plan of salvation".

in 1953, Richard and his father co-founded Pennington Gas Service.  While raising a young family, Richard became the sole owner in 1967 with the passing of his father.  Almost 30 years later, Richard "retired" in 1982, selling the business to his 5 sons.

Together Richard and Marvolene raised five sons, Mark and Beth (Rice) Pennington, Gary and Nancy (Clough) Pennington, Terry and Michelle (Adragna) Pennington, Keith and Sheri (Holbrook) Pennington, and Dean and Teda (Dixon) Pennington, all who survive.  Richard was blessed with 17 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, and many cherished nieces and nephews, all of whom survive.

Those who welcomed his heavenly arrival included his wife, Marvolene; his parents; sister, Doris Pennington; as well as great-grandchildren, Ella Rago and Evie Myers in infancy.  Much loved sisters-in-law, Melba Barnes and Jan Schoonover survive.

Richard's funeral service is at the Morenci Church of the Nazarene on Monday, March 21, 2022, at 11:00 AM.  The church is located at 751 N. Summit Street, Morenci, MI 49256.  Pastor Dusty Pauken will officiate.  Visitation is at the church on Sunday, March 20, 2022, from 3:00 PM - 7:00 PM.  Interment will immediately follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Morenci, MI.
