Philip L. Hartley, age 75 years, of Hudson, passed away at home on Sunday, February 20, 2022. He was born on May 1, 1946, in Hudson to Cyril and Grace (Zweidinger) Hartley. Phil graduated from Hudson High School in 1964. He married Linda Russell on September 15, 1972, and she survives. Also surviving are his daughter, Melissa Gier (Steve) of Hudson and his son, Fr. Matthew Hartley of Centennial, Colorado.
The love of his life was his three grandchildren, Austin Gier (Hannah Detrick), Luke Gier (Heather Temar) and Emily Gier (Ethan White).
He is also survived by a sister, Becky (Phillip) Lawrence and brother-in-law, Bill Beal.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Beth Beal.
Phil was self-employed as a farmer and owner-operator of Hartley Sand & Gravel for over 60 years. Phil was an icon in our small town of Hudson and will be greatly missed by his family and the community. He was admired for his strong work ethic. Four days before his death, he could be seen making deliveries in his dump truck. Phil’s hobby was his work until his grandchildren came along when he could be found at all their sporting events.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Funeral Services for Phil will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 25, 2022, at Sacred Heart Church. Visitation will be on Thursday, February 24, 2022, from 2-4 and 6-8 at the Eagle-Marry Funeral Home in Hudson.
Since Phil dearly loved eating breakfast and lunch at local restaurants, we ask that in lieu of memorials please visit a local restaurant or small business in Hudson in his honor.
