Barbara Jo Mathis

Obituary of Barbara Jo Mathis

Barbara Jo Mathis, 59, of Adrian passed away unexpectedly on November 19, 2021 at her home.

Barbara was born in Stevensville, MI on January 11, 1962 to the late James and Elsie (Syson) Mathis. Barbara shared 15 wonderful years together with the love of her life, Frances Mathis.

Most recently, Barbara worked as an inspector for Orchid Orthopedic Solutions in Chelsea, MI. Prior to Orchid, she was also employed at W2 Fuels and Valero in Blissfield. Though she was a dedicated and hardworking employee, she will be remembered most for her love of the Chicago Cubs, NASCAR, watching all of the different birds and deer around her property, and her wonderful sense of humor. She had a beautiful voice and would often be compared to Patsy Cline and Reba McEntire. In her earlier years, she enjoyed being a part of a band named “Girl’s Night Out”. But, most of all, she found her greatest pleasure in being surrounded by the family and friends whom she loved.

Left to cherish her memory is the love of her life, and wife of 15 years, Fran Mathis; her step-children Christine Moore, Tony Ford, Jr., and Cinthia Ford; her step-grandchildren, Katherine Tiffany, Alexia Bell, Nicholas Moore, Julianne Moore, Kaeli Ford, Madie Ford, and Cannon Ford; her step-great grandchild, Grayson Tiffany; her uncles, Dwayne Mathis, Mac Mathis, and Harold Mathis; her Aunt Barb; her niece and nephew, Lily and Mitchell Zuhl; and her favorite pets, Ginger, Buckey, and Jessie.

Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, James and Elsie Mathis as well as an Aunt, Jo.

According to Barbara’s wishes, cremation will take place with a celebration of life to be held at a later date.

As a final act of Barbara’s generosity, as an organ donor, she will continue to touch, impact, and save the lives of countless individuals.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Lenawee.
