Obituary of Raymond G Laberdee

ADRIAN – Raymond G. Laberdee, age 95, of Adrian, formerly of Deerfield, died Saturday, September 11, 2021, at ProMedica Charles and Virginia Hickman Hospital. He was born September 4, 1926, in Dearborn, MI to Clifford Herbert and Juliette Marie (Beaulieu) Laberdee. On April 24, 1948, he married Thelma G. Pare at Sacred Heart Church in LaSalle, Ontario, Canada and she survives. Raymond graduated from Deerfield High School, the Macomber Vocational School in Toledo, OH, and the Cuckler Technical Training Institute in Monticello, IA. He also attended many training seminars and received many outstanding dealer sales awards. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII for two years with a tour of duty in the Asiatic pacific Theater for 20 months. Raymond had been the owner and operator of Laberdee Building Sales since 1953. He was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Deerfield, the Deerfield Summerfield Lion’s Club, the American Legion Post 392, and was an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus.

 

He served on the Board of Directors for the Deerfield State Bank and the First of America Bank for 18 years, was past trustee of the Deerfield Village Council, was past member of Kiwanis International Organization, was past member of the National Association of Home Builders, and was Chairman of the Deerfield Centennial Celebration in 1973.

 

In addition to his wife, Thelma, he is survived by three sons, Charles (Shirley) Laberdee of Monroe,  Michael (Karin) Laberdee of Orem, Utah, and Patrick (Judy) Laberdee of Deerfield; two daughters, Sharon (Bob) Kane of Clayton and Darlene (Mike) Goll of Willis; two sisters, Katheryn Hartman of Dundee and Geraldine (Sylvanus) Cote of Ohio; sister-in-law, Barbara Laberdee of Petersburg; 22 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Kenneth and Richard Laberdee; one sister, Theresa Alcott Emery; three brothers-in-law, Robert Alcott, Richard Hartman, and Herbert Emery; one daughter, Martha McHenry; one granddaughter-in-law, Shannon Loar; and one grandson, Les Laberdee.

 

The Funeral Liturgy will be held on Friday, September 17, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. with visitation beginning one hour prior to the service at Light of Christ Parish, St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Deerfield with Fr. Jeff Poll as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Alphonsus Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 16, 2021, from 4-8 p.m. at Anderson-Marry Funeral Home, Adrian where there will be a Vigil Prayer Service held at 7:00 p.m.
