Obituary of John A. Marvin Jr.
Adrian – John “Jack” Marvin Jr, age 86, of Adrian, passed away on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, at his home under the loving care of his family and Hospice of Lenawee. He was born on January 27, 1935, in Adrian, the son of John Augustine and Emma Bridget (Weisenberger) Marvin. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1956 – 1958. On July 3, 1956, in Adrian, Jack married Bertha Lou Ries and she survives. Jack was Partner of the Cutler-Dickerson Company for over 56 years. He owned a racehorse that he loved to follow from track to track. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, helped organize The Farmers Bowling League, and sat on many boards for several companies he worked with. Jack enjoyed wintering in Florida, loved being outdoors, gardening, deer hunting in the UP, and going on family fishing trips to Canada.
In addition to his wife, Bertha, Jack is survived by his two sons, John III (Dawn) Marvin and Brian (Kelly) Marvin; son in-law, Frank Kirkendall; grandchildren, Breann (James) Loffing, Lynde (Eric) Bryan, Lacey (Toné) Shirley, Justine (Evan) Hoffman, Michael Marvin II, Matthew Marvin, Rihanne Morgan, Brooke (Justin) Mazur, Kristyn (Josh) Sisco, Tiffany (Dustin) Bishop, Courtney (Chad) Louden, Josh (Maria) Marvin, Jordan (Samantha) Marvin, Alyssa Marvin, and Noah Marvin; two brothers, Bill (Rosemary) Marvin and Jim (Joy) Marvin; one sister, Jane Dempsey; 22 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three children, Michael Marvin Sr, Stephen Marvin, and Nancy Kirkendall; his parents; and a sister, Mary Bulman.
Visitation for Jack will be held on Monday, August 23, 2021, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. with a Vigil Prayer Service beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Anderson-Marry Funeral Home, Adrian. The funeral liturgy will be held on Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. with visitation beginning one hour prior to the service at Holy Family Parish, St. Mary Campus with Fr. Michael Newman as Celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
