Obituary of Wesley Dale Maki

Tipton  - Wesley Dale Maki, age 82, of Tipton passed away on Tuesday, August 3, 2021, at Hospice of Lenawee. He was born on March 31, 1939, in Munising, to Glenn and Anna (Kallio) Maki. He proudly served his country in the National Guard and received his master’s degree in Education from the University of Michigan.  Wes attended the University of Michigan on a full ride scholarship where he played football and was on the year book staff taking many pictures of campus life. On April 15, 1963, in Ann Arbor, he married Gail F. Ehlert, and she survives. Wes had been employed for a short time with Deerfield, Fairgrove, and Dundee Schools, but found his home at Clinton Community Schools, retiring after 29 years of service.


In addition to his wife, Wes is survived by two sons, Richard and Chad Maki, both of Tipton; Lisa (Douglas) Snead of Clinton; two grandchildren, Steven Snead and Bethany (Joe) Spitler; two great-grandchildren, Violet and Hunter Spitler; two sisters, Pearl Larson of Marquette, Diane Vanarman of Grand Rapids; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jack and Floyd Maki; and two sisters, Verdine Sweet and Patty Mingay.


Per Wesley’s request, cremation has taken place.  A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, August 12 from 3-7:00 p.m. at Tate Park in Clinton, MI.
