Obituary of Nancy J. Nichols
Nancy J. Nichols, age 81, of Manitou Beach, passed away on July 6, 2021 in her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on December 1, 1939 in Monroe, to William J. and E. Arlene Smith. Nancy attended Tecumseh High School and graduated from Monroe High School. She married Raymond A. Nichols on January 17, 1959 and he survives her. She was licensed in Real Estate, Insurance and Charter Fishing. Nancy retired in 2010 from Stauder-Barch of Ann Arbor where she served as Chief Financial Officer. She was also employed by Bennett Ambulance. Nancy was a member of St. Mary’s on the Lake and served on their finance committee. She also belonged to the Addison Women’s Club and the Democratic party. Nancy was a chairperson for the Democratic Party and served as a Lenawee County Commissioner. Nancy was also a Charter Captain for Anywhere Fishing Charters on Lake Erie and Michigan. Although she belonged to many organizations, her primary interest was her beloved husband, family and friends. Nancy had a gift for welcoming strangers as friends and making friends, family.
Left to cherish Nancy’s memory is her loving husband, Raymond; daughters, Anita (Patrick) Baran-Caeti of Manitou Beach and Amy (Rev. Earl “Gilly”) Forrest Gilhouse of Manitou Beach; grandchildren, Matthew (Preethi) Baran and their children, Kailash and Sahana, Mark (Monica) Baran, Jessica (Zac) Smith and their children, Claire and Garrett, Luke (Jessica) Forrest and their child, Lilli, and Earl (Amber) Gilhouse IV and their children, Preston and Winston.
The family will receive guests on Monday, July 12, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of her funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s on the Lake Catholic Church in Manitou Beach, with Fr. Todd Koenigsknecht presiding. A luncheon will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Inurnment will be privately held at Brookside Cemetery in Tecumseh.
