Lisa Segur

Obituary of Lisa Segur

There are two sacred moments in every person’s life; the moment they are born and the moment they take their last breath. Lisa Leigh Segur, at 66 years old, breathed her last on May 28, 2021, surrounded by her beloved husband, sons, and daughter. She is now walking alongside her treasured Lord and Savior.

In 1954, Lisa was born in Toledo, Ohio, to Gerald and Barbara Mortemore. She grew up in Sylvania and graduated from Sylvania High School in 1972. She received a Bachelor of Education from The University of Toledo in 1976 as magna cum laude. Although Lisa met her husband, Rodney Segur, in kindergarten, they did not start dating until high school. Rod was her one and only boyfriend, and they married in 1975. This June 28th would have been their 46th anniversary. Together they lived in Toledo for 18 years and then relocated to Palmyra, Michigan, where they have resided for over 25 years and raised their three children. Lisa was a faithful Christ-follower and wanted everyone to know of God’s love for them. She taught Sunday School for
preschoolers, 1st, and 2nd grade for 14 years. She has long attended Element Church in Blissfield, as well as connecting online with Lighthouse Church in Amherstburg, Ontario.

Lisa was passionate, not only about her family and faith, but also with teaching. Her first teaching position was for 1st grade at Sylvania Central Elementary. She taught for 5 years, then paused to be a stay-at-home-mom to raise her children. Lisa resumed her passion with education in 1997 through 2021; teaching for as long as possible. During her teaching career, she was a substitute teacher, migrant program coordinator, kindergarten teacher, 2nd grade teacher, and a professional teaching assistant. All of these positions being at various schools in Lenawee County. Her final position was as the Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) Director and Lead Teacher at Madison Elementary, where she was described as a miracle worker with four-year-olds, for the past 11 years.

When Lisa wasn’t teaching, she enjoyed spending time with her beloved family, gardening, cooking, baking, and reading- especially her Bible and daily devotions. Sharing her love of books with her four grandkids was pure joy for her. Lisa loved traveling around Michigan, swimming at the beach, celebrating family members’ milestones and special occasions, connecting with dear friends, and selling strawberries in the summer. When talking with Lisa, one would be sure to hear her asking a million questions about anything and everything because of her love for people. She will be remembered for her devotion to teaching, being a prayer warrior, and for building a home filled with love that was welcoming to all who entered. Everyone who had the privilege to meet Lisa were blessed to experience her vibrant, faith-filled, beautiful heart. She was loved by many and will be dearly missed.

Lisa Segur is survived by her husband, Rodney Segur; children, Chad (Meredith) Segur, Erik (Megan) Segur, and Lori Segur; grandchildren, Levi, Kirsten, Asher, and Garrett; parents, Gerald and Barbara Mortemore; sisters, Tina (Bill) Sallee and Karen (David) Givens; cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her nephew, Andrew Voorhees.

Lisa’s memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 12th at the Performing Arts Center at Madison High School in Adrian, MI, with visitation 1p-3p and memorial service 3p-4p.
