Obituary of Kathleen A. Riley

Kathleen (Kathy) A. Riley, died on Monday, March 8, 2021 at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio.  Kathy was born December 19, 1955 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the daughter of John (Jack) F. Riley and Patricia (Pat) J. (Williamson) Riley.

 

In High School, Kathy was a member of the Blissfield High School choir and sang at a number of weddings.  In addition, she began a thirty-year career working in the Blissfield Schools Migrant Program, starting by riding a bus, picking up children and ending up as an administrator.  Kathy graduated from Blissfield High School in 1974. She then attended Adrian College, graduating in 1978. While at Adrian College she served as the manager for the Men’s Basketball Team and was the first woman in Adrian College history to receive a varsity letter in a men’s sport.  In addition, Kathy was a proud member of the Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority.  Following graduation, she began her teaching career at Sacred Heart School in Hudson, Michigan. She then taught at Blessed Sacrament Schools in Toledo, Ohio. While teaching there, Kathy obtained her Behavioral Specialist certification from the University of Toledo and then began teaching at Toledo Public Schools as a Behavior Specialist, later obtaining her master’s degree.  She retired from Toledo Public Schools and enjoyed her retirement years meeting with friends and family and caring for her cats.  Kathy also enjoyed spending summers at the family cottage at Higgins Lake, Michigan. 

 

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, John W. Riley.  She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Donna Riley; sister-in-law, Pamela Riley; nieces, Alexandra (Kory) Petterle, Brianna Riley and Rene Baugh; nephews, Blaine (Marianne) Riley and Derek Baugh and great nephew, Liam Petterle.

 

Cremation has taken place.  Visitation for Kathy will be held at the Anderson-Rudd Funeral Home in Blissfield on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 from 1-7 p.m., ending the evening with a Vigil Prayer at 7 p.m. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic and social distancing regulations, only a limited number of individuals will be allowed in the chapel at a time and face coverings are required. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Light of Christ Catholic Parish in Blissfield with Fr. Jeff Poll presiding. A private burial will follow.

 

 In lieu of flowers, donations in Kathy’s memory may be made to the Paws and Whiskers Rescue of Toledo, Ohio, Light of Christ Parish or to the Higgins Lake Foundation.  Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and church.  Condolences may be given to the family at www.andersonfuneralservices.com. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Anderson-Rudd Funeral Home, Blissfield.
