Obituary of Thomas R. Nieman
Thomas R. Nieman age 74 of Blissfield passed away on February 4, 2021 at ProMedica Charles and Virginia Hickman Hospital. Tom was born on December 12, 1946 in Adrian to Russell and Barbara (Gaige) Nieman. He was a graduate of Blissfield High School. Tom proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. On November 2, 1968 he married Margaret “Peggy” Saxton in Blissfield, and she survives. Tom was employed by Blissfield Manufacturing for 39 years. He could also be found working as a landscaper, which he thoroughly enjoyed. He dedicated much of his time to the youth as a Leader for the Boy Scouts and over 35 years of coaching for Blissfield’s Little League Baseball program, one of its longest serving coaches. He and Peggy hosted several foreign exchange students over the years. Tom participated for 8 years in the 150 mile “Bike to the Bay” event from Toledo to Port Clinton to bring support and awareness to Multiple Sclerosis. He loved the outdoors and spending time with his family backpacking and camping. He was an avid follower of Adrian College Wrestling. GO BULLDOGS!
Tom is survived by his wife, Peggy; his sons, Matt (Kori) Nieman of Blissfield, and Captain Jay (Kerry) Nieman of Hudson; a daughter, Molly Nieman of Adrian; two brothers, Martin (Patricia) Nieman of Everett, MI, and Albert Nieman of Blissfield; five grandchildren, Noah Nieman (Erin Southward, Logan Nieman, Trey Nieman, Makayla Nieman, and Amelia Nieman. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Duane Nieman.
A public visitation will be held on Sunday February 7, 2021 from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Anderson-Rudd Funeral Home in Blissfield. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic and social distancing regulations, only a limited number of individuals will be allowed in the chapel at a time and face coverings are required. The funeral service will be private, with Pastor Doug Holmes officiating. Burial will be in Green’s Lakeside Cemetery, Manitou Beach with military rites conducted by the Blissfield American Legion Post #325.
