Marilyn Joan Fansler made her transition to heaven peacefully on the afternoon of December 27th, 2020. Born in Detroit, Michigan on June 27th, 1939, she was the only child of Acey and Violet (Tice) Wilcox. Marilyn grew up in the Detroit area where she received her primary education from Our Lady Gate of Heaven. Family was very important to Marilyn and all of her children and grandchildren can recall the most loving of memories with her.
She is survived by her children as follows: Michael Boulanger (Robin) of Brighton, Michigan; Carol Daniels (James) of Hillsdale, Michigan; Patricia Young of Port Orange, Florida; and Lorraine Babiar (Jeff) of Waterford, Michigan. Grandchildren are listed as follows: Scott Boulanger of Battle Creek, Michigan; Amie Boulanger of Sturgis, Michigan; Maria Boulanger of Brighton, Michigan; Heather Daniels of Chelsea, Michigan; Michele Basil (Brian) of Columbus, Ohio; and James Zaroff of Coldwater, Michigan.
Marilyn was employed by the Detroit local newspaper as a writer and sold Avon cosmetics, door to door. Life eventually brought Marilyn to Pittsford, Michigan where she made several new acquaintances, including her second and late husband, Irving Fansler. The years she spent with Irv were some of the happiest years of her life. Marilyn was employed until retirement at The Kroger Company and this is where she met her best friend Dorothy Gentry, whom she enjoyed many adventures with. She was passionate about providing volunteer services to her local community through the Hillsdale Hospital Gift Shop and Pittsford First Congregational Church where she was an active member.
Marilyn spent many winters in Port Orange, Florida to escape the cold Michigan weather. An open invitation to visit was well known among family and friends. She enjoyed spending time on the beach, indulging in fresh seafood, travel, reading, resale shops, and passing out cookies at Daytona Beach Bike Week. While in Florida, Marilyn fell ill and returned back to Michigan for the sake of being closer to family. She spent her remaining days at the assisted living facility Ashley Court of Brighton, located in Brighton, Michigan.
Interment services will be privately held for family with a celebration of life being planned for a later date. It is requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Marilyn’s name to the following: Pittsford First Congregational Church, 4340 S Pittsford Rd, Pittsford, MI 49271 and Grace Hospice, 2205 Jolly RD, Suite C, Okemos, MI 48864.
