Marvolene Pennington

Obituary of Marvolene G Pennington

Marvolene Grace (Schoonover) Pennington triumphantly finished her race on Thursday, October 8, 2020, falling into her loving Savior’s arms from her home in Morenci.  She was 84 years old.

Marvolene was born October 25, 1935 in Montpelier, Ohio to G. Clifford and L. Evadnah (Robison) Schoonover and graduated Morenci Area High School with the class of 1953.

On December 27, 1953, she married Richard A. Pennington and he survives. Their marriage is remembered and cherished as a display of God’s love, characterized through service and much laughter; although she was known to tell Richard “Not everything is funny.”  Together they raised five sons, Mark and Beth (Rice) Pennington, Gary and Nancy (Clough) Pennington, Terry and Michelle (Adragna) Pennington, Keith and Sheri (Holbrook) Pennington and Dean and Teda (Dixon) Pennington, all who survive.  Marvolene was blessed with 17 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren in addition to many cherished nieces and nephews.

Those cheering Marvolene on from heaven are her parents and brothers Meredith (Stan) Schoonover and Marvin and his wife Wilma (Hough) Schoonover; as well as great-grandchildren, Ella Rago and Evie Myers in infancy.  Beloved sister and sister-in-law Melba Barnes and Jan Schoonover survive.

Marvolene’s primary interests revolved around seeing that her family and community had the opportunity for a personal relationship with Jesus.  As a young mother, she and Richard mentored many teenagers as their Sunday School teachers; later she taught adult Sunday School classes, spoke at Women’s Retreats and mentored many women in the community one-on-one. She also had a great love of music; singing and being the church pianist for many years. Marvolene loved the church, its people and its mission from her youth.

Marvolene’s funeral service will be Saturday, October 17, 2020, at the Morenci Church of the Nazarene located at 751 N. Summit Street, Morenci, MI  49256 at 1:00PM.  Pastor Dusty Pauken and Pastor Larry Betz will officiate.  Visitation is scheduled at the church on Friday, October 16, 2020 from 4pm-8pm and the day of the service from 11:00AM-12:30PM.  Interment will be immediately following at Oak Grove Cemetery, Morenci, MI.
