Obituary of Joan Rau
PALMYRA – Joan Elizabeth Rau, age 87 of Palmyra, passed away on September 21, 2019, at ProMedica Toledo Hospital surrounded by her family.
She was born on February 5, 1932, to John and Hazel (Miller) Barnhart. Joan was a 1950 graduate of Bedford High School and on June 10, 1950 she married Lelan Rau in Samaria, MI and he preceded her in death. Joan was employed as a childcare worker at Bethany Child Care but most of her life she spent taking care of her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and family was very important to her. Joan was well known for her cooking and baking abilities and her famous sugar cookies were enjoyed by her family and church friends. She was a faithful member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Blissfield.
She is survived by a son, Vernon Rau of Jasper; two daughters, Connie (David) Sayler of Blissfield and Peggy (Tim) Bales of Adrian; eight grandchildren, Scott (Elizabeth) Sayler, Todd (Heather) Sayler, Lisa Sayler, Jessica (Jim) Beaubien, Vern Rau, Jr., Misty Rau, Lacey Bales and Toni (Joel) Jarrell and 14 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Lelan, she was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, Ben Rau and Michael Rau and a sister, Marge Dussia
A private family memorial service will be held at Palmyra Cemetery with Pastor Devin Smith officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Anderson-Marry Funeral Home in Adrian.
