Obituary of James Martin Root, Jr.

James "Jim" Martin Root Jr, age 63, of Onsted, passed away on May 3, 2019, at ProMedica Herrick Hospital.  He was born on April 9, 1956, in Detroit, Michigan to James M. and Donna (Froling) Root Sr. On April 9, 1988, in Dearborn, he married Donna Marie Riso in Dearborn, Michigan and she preceded him in death on September 17, 2012. He graduated from Michigan State University.  He was the owner and operator of Root Builders.  Jim loved to entertain at his lake home.  He loved tropical vacations with family and friends.  Jim’s motto was “work hard, play hard”.

James is survived by his father, James M. Root Sr. of Livonia; his mother, Donna Froling of Howell, Michigan; his significant other, Renee Smith of Onsted; two children, A.J. Root of Oak Park, Michigan and Samantha Root of Onsted; two sisters, Deborah (Jerry) Henry of Howell, Michigan and Margaret Bartelt of Southgate, Michigan.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service for Jim will be held at 2 p.m.  on Tuesday, May 7, 2019, at the Anderson-Marry Funeral Home, Tecumseh with Bruce Goldson officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from noon until the time of the service at the Anderson-Marry Funeral Home, Tecumseh
