Obituary of Josephine Russ
Josephine Russ, age 92, of Adrian, passed away January 16, 2019, at home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on June 18, 1926, in Royalton, KY, to Tackett and Verna (Marshall) Fletcher. In 1936, Josephine moved to Clayton with her step-father, Albert Owens. They then moved to a farm in Manchester where she worked on the farm from a young age and attended Manchester schools. On April 16, 1946, in Kentucky, she married Jack Hipsher, and he preceded her in death on September 2, 1975. She then married Leonard Russ on August 21, 1976, and he preceded her in death on December 23, 1983. At the age of 17, Josephine worked at a tank plant in Lima, OH during WWII. She worked as a waitress and a dietician at Bixby Hospital then went to work at GM Fisher Body for 23 years. She attended the Adrian Senior Center, where she loved to play Euchre and loved to dance before having to give it up a few years ago. Josephine loved people and never met anyone she couldn’t talk to. But most of all, she loved her family and was always there for them.
Josephine is survived by one daughter, Sharon Kay (Edward G.) Hood; grandsons, Robert M. (Kristin) Hood and Ryan D. (Bridget) Hood; great grandchildren, Victoria L. Hood and Mitchell K. Hood; one brother, Charles E. (Patricia) Owens; two sisters, Deanna R. (Richard) Dorner and Barb (James) Brown; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her first husband, Jack and second husband, Leonard, she was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Albert Owens; three sisters, Madge Hunt, Linda Mathis, and Betty Betz; and beloved brother-in-law, Edward Hunt.
Visitation for Josephine will be held on Sunday, January 20, 2019, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Anderson-Marry Funeral Home, Adrian. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 21, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at Anderson-Marry Funeral Home, Adrian with Pastor Greg Burdine officiating. Burial will be in Fairfield Cemetery.
