Obituary of Donald Eugene Shirley
Donald Eugene Shirley, age 69, of Sylvania passed at his home on December 26, 2018. Donald was born January 14, 1949 in Adrian, Michigan to Dwayne and Alberta (Virden) Shirley. Donald was a 1967 graduate of Deerfield High School, and received his associate degree in Business from the University of Toledo. Donald served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam Era. Donald worked for the L.E. Smith Company in countertop sales until his retirement in 2007. Donald was an avid collector of Die-cast cars and enjoyed traveling all around the country showing and attending die-cast car shows. Donald was an avid Detroit Tigers fan and loved attending and coaching his children’s sport teams when they were younger. Donald was a very talented bowler and enjoyed bowling in his spare time.
Donald is survived by the mother of his children, Joyce Shirley of Boardman, OH; by his four sons; Derik Shirley of Shadyside, OH, David Shirley (Kim) of Louisville, OH, Daniel Shirley (Carrie Martin) of Columbiana, OH, and Douglas Shirley of Boardman, OH; by his companion and friend Kathy Stenrod of Ann Arbor, MI; by a brother; Marshall Shirley (Linda) of Palmyra, MI; two sisters; Joan Roe of Winterhaven, FL, and Kathy McNicol (Mark) of Adrian, MI; and his five grandchildren; Kaylee, Evan, Jason, Elliot, and Elizabeth; and by his two feline companions Licorice and Barney at home. Donald is preceeded in death by his parents, a sister Beverly Bradford and by a niece Barbie Bradford.
Funeral Services for Donald will be held Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at 2:00 pm at the Anderson-Rudd Funeral Home in Blissfield. Burial will follow in Deerfield Cemetery, with military rites at the cemetery conducted by the Deerfield American Legion Post #392. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 from 12 pm until the time of the service. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.andersonfuneralservices.com.
