Obituary of Rafael "Ralph" Gonzales

 

Rafael “Ralph” Gonzales, age 94, of Adrian, died December 21, 2018, at Metro Health Hospital in Wyoming, MI.

 

He was born October 24, 1924, in New Braunfels, TX. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942-1945.  On June 10, 1950, he married Rose Anaya in Toledo and she preceded him in death.  Ralph had been employed by Kewaunee Scientific Mfg. until their closing.  He also worked for ADA Security and Woodlawn Golf Course.  He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Cursillo, the Holy Name Society and served as an usher, lector, Eucharistic Minister, sang in the choir and was a Sponsor for the church. He was a member of the Guadalupe Society, former Grand Knight and Deputy Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, Prison Ministry, Migrant Program, the Lenawee County Golf Association, Adrian Cardinal Baseball Team, Latino Golf Classic Chairman, President of the Labor Council for Latin American Advancement, served on the Board of the Tri-County Community Action Agency (CAA), CAC Advisory Board, Mediator for the South East Dispute Resolution Advisory Committee, the Council of Senior Citizens Region 1C Legislative Group, the Hispanic Leadership Committee, Latino/Latina Labor Studies, Secretary for the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Jointer UBJ Local #2037, and was a Democrat.  Ralph could always be found on the golf course as he was an avid golfer and had a great love for the game.

 

 Ralph is survived by his sons, Ralph (Dee) Gonzales of Freemont, OH, Claudio (Gwen) Gonzales of Monroe and their children, Mary, Claudia, and Rafael, Steve (Tina) Arriaga of Adrian and their children, Gabriel and Anaya; daughter, Cheryl (Phil) Klocke of Byron Center and their children, Reece (Mariah), Anna, Jacob, and their granddaughter, Aria; bonus daughter, Martha Wehrman of Pinckney;  son-in-law, Charlie Rhoden of South Bend, IN and his children, Chris, Nate (Charlotte), and Ryan (Laura); sister-in-law, Sarah Gonzales of North Carolina and her children, Michael, Angela, Deborah, Karen, and Joseph; many nieces, nephews; his other love, St. Mary’s Spanish Mass Choir; and special friends of the McDonalds Breakfast Club, Saturday Men’s Group, and all his compadres. In addition to his wife, Rose, he was preceded in death by his parents, Anastacio and Lina; stepfather, Claudio Delgado; two brothers, Enrique and Ramon; sister, Brulinda; and a daughter, Mary Rose Rhoden.

 

The Funeral Liturgy will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary of Good Counsel Catholic Church presided by Fr. Mike Newman.  Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Friday, December 28, 2018, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Anderson-Marry Funeral Home, Adrian, where there will be a Rosary conducted by SAM’s and Knights of Columbus at 3:30 p.m.  and there will also a Vigil Prayer service held at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will also be held at St. Mary of Good Counsel Catholic Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
