Michael Edward Hess, age 56 of Adrian, MI passed away unexpectedly on Friday, October 5, 2018. He was born on November 18, 1961 in Adrian, Michigan to Richard and Jean (Wesley) Hess. He was a 1980 graduate of Adrian High School. Throughout his life, he was a production painter and enjoyed completing vehicle projects. Mike was a good Christian man that was very strong in his faith. He took pride in reading the Bible daily and we know that he's smiling down from heaven as he's watching over our family.
Mike was the most resourceful man you could ever meet. He was always finding a way to create and build things out of scrap parts, always finding a way to fix and repair items. He had a love and passion for restoring various Pontiac Firebirds and Trans Ams in his earlier years, racing his cars at various Dragway’s, to motorcycle projects and racing in his later years.
He loved the great outdoors, taking walks through the woods, and especially his infamous Oak Tree in his back yard. He was avid deer hunter that loved both bow and gun hunting and watching nature from his tree stands.One of Mike’s most cherished things in life was spending time with his two grandsons. It was life changing for him when he became a “Pappy.” He enjoyed watching his grandson race every weekend, teaching the boys, telling them stories and just being with them. He had a special bond with them that will never be replaced or forgotten.
Surviving are two daughters that were his purpose in life and he loved being a father to, Laura Smith of Temperance, MI and Ashley Hess of Maybee, MI; two son in laws that he loved and treated like his own sons , Jake Smith and Aaron Green; two grandsons that were the light of his life, Joel and Jack Smith; his mother who he adored and spent so much of his time with, Jean Hess of Adrian; his girlfriend who he cherished and was by his side for the last 7 years, Christine Green of Adrian; six siblings that he loved being a brother to, Joseph Hess, Karen (Cliff) Garnsey, Carol (Art) Barnhart, Jeannie Louden, Jacqueline (Todd) Dunbar and John (Paul Manger) Hess. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard; a niece, Erin Barnhart, nephew Dan Garnsey and his lifelong best friend, Claude Renou.
Following Michaels’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place on Monday, October 15, 2018 from 5-8 p.m. at the Anderson-Marry Funeral Home, Adrian.
