Obituary of Michael Scott Saxton
Michael Scott Saxton, age 49 of Blissfield, passed away unexpectedly, early Friday morning, September 14, 2018 at ProMedica Toledo Hospital, Toledo, Ohio. He was born on October 25, 1968 on Bitburg Air Base in Moetsch, Germany, the only son of J. Richard and Carolyn (Bettis) Saxton. Michael was a graduate of Blissfield Schools and completed his Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science and Mathematics at Adrian College. On May 23, 1992, Michael married Karen Scott in Blissfield and she survives. He was employed by Venchurs, Inc. for the past 27 years where he currently was the IT Manager.
Michael was a devoted husband and father who immersed himself in family life. He was very active at Compelled Church in Temperance where he served on the Sound Team as a Sound Board Technician. He served as a Troop Leader of Troop 8 in Blissfield, and earned the Eagle Scout Award through Troop 239 in Deerfield. For the past 13 years Michael has dedicated his time and passion to learning and teaching Karate at Blissfield Martial Arts. He earned his 5th Degree Black Belt and was co-owner and instructor at the school. He was a home school dad, teacher, and member of LIFE (Lenawee Involved in Family Education). Michael also served as a programming mentor for robotics teams; First Lego League and First Robotics. He loved everything Disney and it was his favorite place to vacation. His favorite character is Baloo from Jungle Book.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, Karen Saxton of Blissfield, are four children, Nicole Saxton, Jennifer Saxton, Christopher Saxton and Benjamin Saxton, all of Blissfield; his father, J. Richard “Dick” Saxton of Blissfield; and two sisters, Kristen Saxton of Portland, OR and Rebecca (Peter) Erdman of Alexandria, VA. Also surviving is his mother-in-law, Jessie Scott of Ft. Wayne, IN, a sister-in-law, Barbara (Brian) Powers of Ft. Wayne, IN, a brother-in-law, David (Amy) Scott of Fairfield, OH, and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Carolyn Saxton, his father-in-law, Dennis Scott and a sister-in-law, Tonya Lockwood.
Funeral services for Michael will be held on Wednesday, September 19, 2018, at 12 p.m. at Compelled Church in Temperance with Pastor Rick Flood officiating. Visitation hours will be on Tuesday from 2-4 and 5-8 pm at Anderson-Rudd Funeral Home in Blissfield and also on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at Compelled Church in Temperance.
