Obituary of James Buford Medley
James Buford “Jack” Medley, age 93, died September 12, 2018, of heart failure at Charlotte Stephenson Manor in Adrian, Michigan.
He was born in Rossville, Indiana to George Robert and Mary Eliza Medley on October 10, 1924. He proudly served his country in the Navy during World War II from 1943-1945. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution. He married Mae Miriam Juopperi on March 9, 1946, in Detroit, Michigan. They raised their five children in Belleville, Michigan. He was a member of the Willow Run Church of God in Ypsilanti, Michigan, where in earlier years he served as church clerk. Jack had a great love and respect for his family. Since 1970, he and his wife spent many hours researching their family histories, along with writing down many special memories of their lives. Mr. Medley’s career with General Motors spanned 30 years until his retirement in 1982. He was known as a very honest and hard worker. After retirement, he and his wife moved to Huntland, Tennessee and then to Winchester, Tennessee. There they enjoyed farming, growing fruit and pecan trees, canning fruits and vegetables, along with raising cows and chickens. Jack also enjoyed woodworking and making furniture pieces for his family. His passion was sharing stories about his childhood and his life and old time memories. Jack and his wife returned to Michigan in 2003 to be closer to family.
Mr. Medley is survived by his sons, James R. (Patricia) Medley, of Belleville, Michigan, David W. (Claire) Medley, of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and George A. Medley of Ypsilanti, Michigan; two daughters, Carole A. (Ronald) Smith of Onsted, Michigan and Jacqueline M. (Thomas) Cornfield of Montague, Michigan; 13 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mae, in 2005. They were married 59 years. He was also preceded in death by his parents and seven brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 18, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 10:00 a.m. at the Anderson-Marry Funeral Home, 3050 W. Beecher Rd. in Adrian with Reverend David King officiating. Following the service, Mr. Medley will be laid into rest beside his wife at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, Michigan.
