Obituary of Helen Korican

BRITTON - Helen Margaret (Machacek) Smetka-Korican, age 92 of Britton passed away on July 23, 2018.

She was born on June 10, 1926, in Milan, Michigan, to John and Elizabeth (Veverka) Machacek.  On September 11, 1945, she married Chester Smetka,  he preceded her in death on February 21, 1987.  She married Emil Korican on June 23, 1992, he also preceded her in death on April 19, 2015.  Helen worked at Hayes Albion Factory in Milan and United Stove Company.  She was a farmer all her life and was a devoted wife and mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.   She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Milan, the American Bohemian Club, Dundee Senior Citizens.  She enjoyed farming, baking Czech pastries, listening to Czech music, dancing, playing cards and spending winters in Florida.

Helen is survived by a son, Mark (Marie) Smetka of Britton, grandchildren Marcus (Michelle) Smetka of  Rochester Hills, Adam Smetka of Britton, and a great grandson, Boston, step children, John (Mary) Korican of Manchester, Walter (Debbie) Korican of Dexter, Emilie (Oleg) Michajlenko of Ann Arbor, and several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Chester Smetka, second husband Emil Korican, four sisters, Mary, Francis, Bessie, and Rose.

Visitation for Helen will be Tuesday, July 31, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Milan with a Memorial Mass following at 11:00 am.   Interment will follow at Marble Park Cemetery, Milan, Michigan.
