ADRIAN – Charles Edwin Southward, age 81, of Adrian, died April 26, 2018, at his home.
He was born May 7, 1936, in Berkey, Ohio to Frederick and Beulah (Ford) Southward. He graduated from Blissfield High School. He married Mildred Mary Hoffman on September 28, 1957 in Temperance, MI and she survives. Charles had been employed by Blissfield manufacturing for 42 years, retiring in 2001. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He had been a 4-H Leader for the Raisin Slickers. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren. Charlie especially enjoyed woodworking and he designed and constructed many unique items for area schools, churches, and businesses.
In addition to his wife, Mildred, he is survived by three sons, Stephen (Sarah) Southward of Blacksburg, VA, David (Kyle) Southward of Blissfield and Robert (Rhonda) Southward of Clayton; one brother, Lynn (Darlene) Southward of Palmyra; a sister, Charlotte Andrews of Adrian; eight grandchildren, Jessica, Charles, Joshua, John and Rachael Southward and Tim (Rachelle), Tom Palmer and Lauren (William) Vernon; and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Marion Southward.
Visitation for Charles will be held on Sunday, April 29, 2018, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Anderson-Marry Funeral Home, Adrian where a Vigil Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Liturgy will be held on Monday, April 30, 2018, 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary of Good Counsel Church with Fr. Mike Newman presiding. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
