Obituary of Diana Diebel

Diana F. Diebel, age 67 of Blissfield passed away peacefully in the loving arms of her family on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at Ebeid Hospice in Sylvania, Ohio.

She was born August 22, 1950, in Adrian, to Cyril and Sarah (VanNeste) DeMille.  In 1968 Diana graduated from Blissfield High School and on August 31, 1968, she married James Diebel at St. Peters’s Catholic Church and he survives.

Diana was employed by Blissfield Community Schools from 1988 – 2011.  She served in many capacities there including playground supervisor and most recently elementary librarian.  She was a very proud member of the Blissfield Community she lived in and loved the “small town” feel.  Her life revolved around family and she was proudly involved with her grandchildren’s activities.  If you were friends with Diana you were family.  She made everyone feel welcome in her home and people just naturally gravitated to her.  Diana was a faithful and lifelong member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, where she and her husband, James were instrumental in marriage preparation guidance.  Her many interests included playing Bunco, reading, camping, traveling and taking in any waterfalls she could find.

Surviving Diana, in addition to her husband, James, are her children, William (Beth Holowicki) of Livonia, Sara (Todd) Smith and Laura (Shane) Retter, both of Blissfield,  and 10 grandchildren; Emma, Ryan, Annabelle, Clayton, Layla, Mason, Durant, Molly, Allison and Emily (due to make her appearance this June).  Preceding her in death were her parents, a sister, Betty Jane Knapp, and a brother Jerry DeMille.

The Funeral Liturgy will be on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Light of Christ Catholic Church (St. Peter’s), Blissfield with Fr. Jeff Poll presiding.  Burial will be private. Visitation will be held on Monday from 6-8 p.m. and Tuesday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., with a Vigil Prayer Service at 7 p.m. at the Anderson-Rudd Funeral Home, Blissfield. There will also be a visitation on Wednesday from 10:00-10:45 a.m. at the church. Please share stories and offer condolences to the family at www.andersonfuneralservices.com. Memorial contributions are suggested to James Diebel to be designated for a planned literacy fund in Diana’s memory. Envelopes are available at the Anderson-Rudd Funeral Home, Blissfield.
