Obituary of Donald Isley

 Donald V. Isley, age 86 of Blissfield passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Hospice of Lenawee’s Hospice Home, Adrian. He was born on December 12, 1931 in Blissfield to H. Vern and Bernice S. (Baker) Isley.  Don was a lifetime resident of the Blissfield and Deerfield communities.  Don graduated from Blissfield High School in 1949, achieving the spot of being one of top ten of his class.  He was an active member of FFA, earning various awards.  On November 9, 1957, Don was married to Mabel I. Fink at Immanuel Lutheran Church by the Reverend William Weinlander.  Mabel preceded Don in death on July 19, 2016.  Don went to work for Tecumseh Products and was later drafted by the United States Army in 1952. He was stationed in Germany during the Korean War Conflict until his discharge in 1954.  He returned home and continued his employment at Tecumseh Products along with full time farming.  Don retired from Tecumseh Products after 40 plus years of service.  He continued farming, expanding his operation and eventually retired fully from farming in 2016.  He enjoyed singing in the Maumee Valley Seaway Commanders Barbershop Chorus during the 1980’s. Don also enjoyed, restoring antique tractors, which he bought and sold and kept a small fleet for himself. He took great pride in the fact that the Isley Family Farm reached Centennial Farm Status in 1977 and its legacy continues today. Don served his community in many capacities, such as serving on the Deerfield Drain Commission Board and the Lenawee County Road Commission, serving as Commissioner for two separate terms, 2001-2007 and 2009-2014.  He enjoyed traveling with his wife, Mabel, including trips to Branson, MO and Europe.

            Surviving are three children, Duane Isley (Diane Turk) and Michelle Isley, both of Blissfield and David (Traci) Isley of Willis, MI; four grandchildren, Cayla (Dylan) Couch, Jessica French, Daniel Isley and Katrina Isley and one sister, Doris (James) Frye of Palmyra.  In addition to his wife, Mabel, he was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son, Charles Leroy Isley. 

            Funeral services for Don will be held on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at Noon at the Anderson-Rudd Funeral Home, Blissfield with Pastors Gary Leking and Lawson Crane officiating.  Military Rites will be conducted following the service by the Blissfield American Legion Post #325 and the V.F.W. Annis-Fint Post #1584. Burial will be private. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 from 2-8 p.m. at the Anderson-Rudd Funeral Home, Blissfield and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday.  Condolences may be given to the family at www.andersonfuneralservices.com.
