Obituary of Joseph Noffsinger

ADRIAN – Joseph Benjamin Noffsinger was born in Mogadore, OH on February, 7, 1933, to Rev. Stanley B., Sr. and Naomi Pearl Noffsinger.  He was named after his two grandfathers.  Joe married Esther Joy Whisler on November 28, 1958, in Beaverton, MI.  Together they have raised three sons and enjoyed many family occasions while also traveling to all 50 states and several foreign countries. He was a member of the Clayton United Methodist Church.
Joe graduated from Springfield High School, Akron, OH and earned degrees from Manchester College, N. Manchester, IN and Cornell University, Ithaca, NY. He taught sciences for several years in high schools in Indiana, and then came to Adrian College where he taught Astronomy and Earth Sciences for 31 years. During his time at Adrian College he used his creativity and love of learning to produce planetarium shows for schools and public groups.
Joe was a conscientious objector to war because of his religious beliefs. He served his country and humanity by being a normal control patient for experimental medicine at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD during the Korean War.
Joe is survived by his wife and sons: James and his wife Deborah of Goshen, IN; David and his wife Janice of Sand Creek, MI; and Steven and wife Cheryl of Chesapeake, VA. Grandchildren are: Joseph Noffsinger and his wife Renee, Matthew Noffsinger and his fiancée Jessica, Greg Noffsinger and his fiancee Brooke, Timothy Noffsinger, Jennifer Edmonson and husband Logan, Shelby Noffsinger, Deanna Hutchins, Marquette Noffsinger, and Samuel Noffsinger. Great grandchildren include: Monique and Xavier Hammond, Abigail Edmonson, Jonathan and Arilyn Noffsinger.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents and parents-in-law, Arthur and Betty Whisler; and his siblings: Stanley Noffsinger, Jr., Florence Ewart, Dorothy Brown, Donald Noffsinger, Joyce Noffsinger, and Sara Maloof; and by a granddaughter Rhiannan Noffsinger.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 16, 2017, from 4-8 p.m. at Anderson-Marry Funeral Home, Adrian. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, October 17, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at Clayton United Methodist Church with Rev. Bob Dister officiating.
