Obituary of Sherwood Fox

Sherwood L. (Woody) Fox ADRIAN -Sherwood L. (Woody) Fox, age 66, entered the presence of the Lord on September 30, 2012 under the loving care of Hospice of Lenawee. He was born in Adrian on August 9, 1946. Woody was the son of William G.D. and Aletha (Knierim) Fox. He married Mary Jane (Burley) on February 6, 1971. He is survived by his wife, her mother Phoebe Burley of Brighton, sons Jamison C. (Jill) Fox, of Rochester Hills, Justin B. (Traci) Fox of Big Rapids, grandchildren Brady, Hadley, J.C., and Jonas Fox, aunt Mabel Knierim and numerous cousins and their families. Woody was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law Roy J. Burley. Woody attended Sand Creek Community Schools and graduated in 1964. He received his Bachelors of Arts degree in Education from Adrian College in 1968, his Masters of Arts degree from Eastern Michigan University in 1974 and his Elementary Certification from Siena Heights University in 1981. He taught 3 years at Memphis Community Schools and 1 year at North Branch Community Schools before returning to Sand Creek Community Schools to teach for 27 years. While there he coached baseball, boys basketball, girls basketball and golf and taught driver education. He retired from Sand Creek Schools in January of 1999. Woody loved sports and athletics, especially basketball, baseball and golf. He had 4 hole in one's, played in numerous golf leagues, and was noted for his famous 13 wood. He was a high school official for basketball and softball. He ushered at the University of Michigan basketball games for many years. Most recently he enjoyed working as a ranger at Wolf Creek Golf Course which gave him the opportunity to chat with many people, which was one of his favorite pastimes. He always enjoyed telling jokes and playing practical jokes. He was very proud of his sons and their families and enjoyed time with his grandchildren and fixing root beer floats for them and having team drinks. Woody enjoyed spending winters in Bradenton, Florida, and visiting the beach on Anna Maria Island, summers in Adrian and time at his cottage on Indian Lake near West Branch. Visitation to be held at Anderson Funeral Home, 3050 W. Beecher Road, Adrian, Thursday, October 4 from 2 pm to 8 pm. Celebration of Life service to be held Saturday, October 6 at the Sand Creek High School gymnasium at 11 am. Visitation preceding the service from 10 am to 10:45 am. The Reverend Dr. Kenneth T. Boyd will officiate the Celebration of Life. Burial service will be at Fairfield Cemetery immediately after the Celebration of Life. Pastor Lloyd Jewett will officiate the burial service. Luncheon to follow at the Jasper Bible Church.
