Doris Powell

Doris Powell, 90, of Coldwater, formerly of Morenci, Mi, passed away on Monday, June 6, 2022, at her home with her daughter, and family.  Doris was born on October 23, 1931 at her parents’ home on Dewey Lake in Michigan.  She was the oldest child of Harold and Alma (Archer) McKee.

Her passion was her extracurricular activity...bowling.  She had been the local secretary and president of the Morenci bowling association.  Doris was inducted as a Life Member, along with being inducted into the Morenci Bowling Hall of Fame in 1988.  The Women’s International Bowling Congress awarded Doris for her 35 years of attending national tournaments, and the Michigan Women’s Bowling Association Tournament presented her with a 40 year award for her years of participation.

She was a member of the Morenci Eagles and had held many positions, including Madam President.  Her devotion of being a member of the Eagles led her to be an active officer at the state level.

Another organization she enjoyed being a member was the Morenci Sportsman’s Club.  Doris enjoyed watching her husband, Lloyd, participate in the clay shooting sport at the club.

On April 3, 1948, Doris married the love of her life, Lloyd.  She and Lloyd lived and worked on their rural farms in Morenci for 65 years.  In those early years, Doris could be found helping with hauling the grain to the elevator, or any number of jobs needed on the farm.
