Cleantha M. Joughin

Morenci - Cleantha M. “Cle” Joughin, age 86, longtime Morenci area resident, died Wednesday, August 11, 2021, at Country Living of Hillsdale – Drews Place. She was born August 22, 1934, in Riga, MI, to the late George and Edna (KolzRehklau. Cle grew up in Riga and attended Blissfield Schools, where she graduated from high school in 1951. She married Ward Clark Joughin on January 28, 1961, in Riga. He preceded her in death on February 17, 2016. 


In addition to being a homemaker and raising her children, Cle worked for her and Ward’s business, Ward’s Grain Company, as well as serving as a secretary to the plant manager at the former Tecumseh Products for almost ten years.  Cleantha was very involved in the activities of Trinity Lutheran Church in Morenci, where she was a member and substituted as an organist. She and Ward belonged to the International Flying Farmers of Michigan club and maintained a small landing strip on their farm. She was active as a 4-H leader and enjoyed working outside on the farm and her garden.  


A lover of music, Cle enjoyed singing and was skilled at many instruments, including the accordion and harp, and she performed at numerous local events and nearby nursing homes. She was an avid card player and enjoyed square dancing and sewing. She was blessed with numerous trips across the country and abroad, and her and Ward wintered in Florida for over 25 years. 


Surviving are three sons, Bill Joughin of Morenci, Dan (Carrie) Joughin of Morenci, and Tom (Darcie) Joughin of Niles, MI; ten grandchildren, Justin, Katelyn, Dana, Taylor, Tessa, Raven, Jake, Clark, Kayla, and Carson; ten great-grandchildren, Evelyn, Drew, Maddox, Benedict, Abigail, Ward, Hailey, Jake Jr., Leah, and Oakley; daughter-in-law, Shana Joughin of Fayette, OH; and special nephews that she helped raise, Robert and Marvin Rehklau of Collinsville, IL. 


In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Richard; two brothers, Herbert and Kenneth Rehklau; and a granddaughter, Sierah Joughin. 


The family will receive friends for a visitation on Monday, August 16, 2021, from 1:00 - 3:00 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Morenci. A funeral service for Cleantha will follow at 3:00 PM, also on Monday, at Trinity Lutheran Church, with Pastor Michael Bater, officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Morenci. 


Cleantha wished for memorial donations in her honor be given to the Alzheimer’s Association or Trinity Lutheran Church. Friends can share memories and words of comfort with the family online at
