Richard C. Brownell, age 96, of Adrian, died Sunday, November 4, 2018 at Hospice of Lenawee’s Hospice Home, Adrian. He was born April 10, 1922, in Palmyra to Clyde and Mytrie (Batch) Brownell. On May 13, 1942, he married Marjorie Bechtol and she preceded him in death on December 18, 1999. He served in the 96th Division of the Army from 1942-1946. He spent 14 months in the Philippines and in Okinawa and was involved in the Invasion on Lyte, Philippines and the Invasion on Okinawa. He earned a Bronze Star. Richard had been employed by Bohn Aluminum and then Simplex for 19 years. After leaving Simplex, he was self employed for 35 years, as a building contractor for his own business, Richard C. Brownell and Sons. Richard was a member of the D.A.V., Lenawee Chapter #20, having served as the Commander for 3 years and as Trustee for 20 years. He was also a member of the VFW Annis-Fint Post #1584.
Richard is survived by two sons, Richard (Michelle) Brownell, Jr. of Sturgis and Gary (Dorothy) Brownell of Adrian; two daughters, Betty Lou Cook of Seagoville, TX and Carol (Charles) Harsh of Adrian; 14 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Marjorie, he was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, one sister and a great-grandson.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at the Anderson-Marry Funeral Home, Adrian with Pastor George Cleverley officiating. Burial will be in Lenawee County Memorial Gardens in Tecumseh with Full Military Rites conducted by the VFW Annis-Fint Post #1584. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Anderson-Marry Funeral Home, Adrian. You may send condolences to the family at www.andersonfuneralservices.com.
