ADRIAN- Duane F. Swartzlander, age 88, of Adrian, died October 31, 2018 at Charlotte Stephenson Manor.
He was born December 12, 1929, in Toledo, Ohio to Carl and Esther Swartzlander. He served in the Army from 1951 - 1953. He married Lillian Longnecker on August 22, 1953. Prior to moving to Adrian in 1974, Duane was a member of Zion United Methodist Church in Whitehouse, Ohio, and was a current member of First United Methodist Church, Adrian. The Swartzlanders were owner-operators of the Big Red Q Quickprint franchise, in Adrian, which opened in 1972, and in 1977 they achieved the honor of operating the top franchise in the country. After leaving the franchise, the business operated as Legacy Printing until 2014. Duane loved to travel with Lillian, especially to Hawaii, Alaska and Europe. They also enjoyed spending time at their vacation home in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.
He is survived by three children, Gary (Peggy) of Jackson, Michigan; Dennis (Kay) of Adrian, and Rita, of Jackson; five grandchildren, David (Jennifer). Matthew (Valerie Herr) and Nathaniel (Sarah) Swartzlander, and Mason and Emily Hugus; great grandchildren, Mason, Alec, Sadie and Reese. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian, parents, brothers Glenn and Ray, and daughter-in-law, Candy Swartzlander.
Funeral services for Duane will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2018, at 12:30 p.m. at Anderson-Marry Funeral Home, Adrian with Pastor Drew Hart officiating. Burial will follow in the Lenawee Hills Memorial Park in Adrian. Visitation will be held Friday, November 2, 2018, 4-8 p.m. at the Anderson-Marry Funeral Home, Adrian.
