Robert Thomas Xeras

ADRIAN: Robert Thomas Xeras, beloved spouse of Sylvia Xeras, passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 19, 2018, at his home after a three year fight with prostate cancer. Bob and Sylvia are the parents of four daughters; Pam (Dan) Lipp of Bowling Green, KY, Cathy (Joseph) Sutherland of Cleveland, OH, Julie (Waseem) Ahmed of Reno, NV and the late Marie Xeras. Bob is the adventuresome grandfather of 19 grandchildren and one great granddaughter.


Born in July 1939, in Detroit, MI to George and Frances (Madalinski) Xeras. Bob received his B.S. at the University of Detroit and his Masters at Wayne State University. He taught mathematics at Lawrence Tech Institute and worked as a system analyst for 30 years at St. Joseph’s hospital in Ann Arbor. Bob retired from Siena Heights University in Adrian in 1998 after teaching computer information systems and math for 20 years.


Bob proudly served 13 years in the Marine Corps Reserves Naval Air Station in Grosse Isle, MI.  He was active at St. Joseph’s Parish as lector, Eucharistic Minister, and 25 years as the head of the Ushers Club. Bob was a member of the 4th Degree Assembly #1969, Knights of Columbus #1665, a 38 year active member of the American Legion Post 97, a VA member, and a member of the North Adrian Grange. Bob will be missed for his jokes, friendly demeanor, mapping skills, and knowledge of history. He was passionate about environmental and political issues, as evidenced by his numerous letters to the editor.


Viewing will be held on Friday, June 22, 2018, from 2-8 p.m. at Anderson-Marry Funeral Home, Adrian where a Vigil Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Fr. Jim Hug will celebrate a funeral Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 23, 2018, with visitation beginning at 12:00 p.m. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post #97 and the V.F.W. Post #1584 following the liturgy. Bob’s final resting place will be in Calvary Cemetery in Cleveland, OH.
