Gary Crane

MANTON, MI-Gary Crane passed away Saturday, March 31, 2018, at his home in Manton, Michigan.

He was born in Adrian, Michigan, September 9, 1940, to Charles and Violet (Happel) Crane.

He graduated from Onsted High School in 1958.  On August 26, 1961, he married Mary Lou Byrd in Adrian.  They had a long and happy life together.  He was blessed with two wonderful children, Cassandra (Joe) DeLisio of Lake City Michigan and Charles (Hilda) Crane of Hudsonville, Michigan.  His children blessed him with four fantastic grandchildren, Emily (Tom) Lutke of Colorado, Kara Crane and Benjamin (Emily) Crane of Holland, Michigan and Eric DeLisio of Cadillac, Michigan.  He has two beautiful great-granddaughters, Jessica DeLisio of Michigan and Rowan Lutke of Colorado.  He also had three step-grandchildren, Amber, Blake, and Chase Kornelis, and four step-great-grandchildren, Peyton, Severa, Havana, and Falynn of Hudsonville, Michigan.  Although he didn’t tell them often enough, he loved his family very much.

Gary started his career as a die casting engineer which took him and his family to several states.  He enjoyed the traveling and making new friends.  However, in 1989, he had the opportunity to come back to Michigan and pursue his lifelong dream of becoming a law enforcement officer.  At that time he became a Deputy with the Lenawee County Sheriff’s Department and stayed there until his retirement in 2003.  He respected and admired Sheriff Richard Germond very much. Gary was a 3rd Degree Mason, and member of the NRA and S.A.S.S. (Single Action Shooter Society).  He loved going to Missouri, Oklahoma, and Texas for the competitive shooting.  His retirement days were filled with joy spending his time with his awesome friend and best pal, Steve, his black lab.  Gary had a great love for all dogs, but Labs were his favorite.

Besides his wife, children, and grandchildren, he is survived by two sisters, Charlotte (Chuck) Friedrich of Ohio and Cheryl Kast of Indiana, and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Violet Crane; his in-laws, Dayton and Lillian Byrd; a brother-in-law, David Kast; and a sister-in-law, Patricia Woodward.

Gary touched everyone he knew in only a way that they can relate to,
