Obituary of Thomas Liewert

Thomas “Tom” Liewert, age 71, of Blissfield, passed away Wednesday, August 09, 2017, at his home.  He was born in Adrian September 27, 1945, the son of William and Louise (Tornow) Liewert. Thomas was a lifetime resident of Blissfield graduating from Blissfield High School and Jackson Community College. On December 23, 1965, he married Susan I. Smith at St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Blissfield and she survives.

Tom was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Metamora, OH.  He was employed at Tecumseh Products for many years.  He then worked at the University of Toledo as a plumber and until his illness he was employed at Owens Community College teaching plumbing.  Tom had many hobbies and interests, supporting his grandchildren in their sports activities, fishing, gardening, sports (Spartans and Rockets), history, nature, his family, and friends.  He was also a big fan of Harry Potter and Star Wars.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Susan are two sons, Steven (Robert Wayner) Liewert, of Swanton, OH, and Daniel Liewert of Blissfield; two daughters, Carrie (Brad) Cox of Morenci, MI and Heather (Matt) Hughes of Adrian; one brother, Art (Erma) Liewert of Blissfield; four grandchildren, Megan Cox, Katie Cox, Brandon Hughes and Isaac Hughes; and numerous nieces and nephews and his beloved canine companion, “Roscoe”.  He was preceded in death by his parents and one nephew, Paul Liewert.

Visitation will be on Sunday August 13, 2017 from 2-8 PM at the Anderson-Rudd Funeral Home in Blissfield.  Funeral Services for Tom will be held on Monday, August 14, 2017, at 11 AM at the

Anderson-Rudd Funeral Home in Blissfield with the Pastor Ed Strietelmeier officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the Blissfield American Legion Post 325 and the Blissfield V.F.W. Post 10912.

Cremation will follow the services.  You may send condolences to the family at  Memorial contributions may be made in Tom’s memory to Hospice of Lenawee.  Envelopes are available at Anderson Rudd Funeral Home, Blissfield.
