Obituary of Irene Hassenzahl
Irene H. Hassenzahl, age 87 of Clayton passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at her home. She was born on March 26, 1930 in Rome Township, Michigan to Homer and Arpha (Poling) Pickford. On April 14, 1945, Irene was united in marriage to George H. Hassenzahl in Seward, Ohio. He preceded her in death in 2009. Irene worked for General Motors in Adrian, retiring on April 1, 1992. She was a member of the Canandaigua Community Church and the Order of the Eastern Star Fairfield Chapter #224. Irene also served as the past Matron and past President of the Lenawee/Monroe County Association of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by two sons, Larry Hassenzahl and his wife, Sandra of Battle Creek and Edward Hassenzahl and his wife, Cheryl of Hudson; two daughters, Gerrie Sienkiewicz and her husband Robert of Livingston, Texas and Diane Sharlow and her husband, Paul of Blissfield, MI; 11 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers; four sisters. In addition to her parents and husband, George, she was preceded in death by three brothers and a great-granddaughter, Abigail Sayer.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2017, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Anderson-Marry Funeral Home, Adrian. Funeral services for Irene will be held on Sunday, July 30, 2017 at 2 p.m. at the Anderson-Marry Funeral Home, Adrian with Brian Sayers officiating. Burial will follow in Canandaigua Cemetery.
