Obituary of John Wellnitz
The sadness of all the tears in the world, he’s gone.
The sounds of his laughter now stilled, he’s gone.
My honey, my Johnny, he’s gone. We’re not ready, we’re just not ready.
Palmyra – John Walter Wellnitz, my beloved, our daddy, our grandpa, our brother, was just 69. Born November 3, 1947, in Palmyra, MI to Walter and Jeanne (Staup) Wellnitz. Dad to his two girls, Sarah September (George) Butler and Dianne Larae (Randy) Bauerschmidt. Grandpa to his and Grandma’s “Best Boy”, Sebastian Eric Johnson, his sidekick “McKinney” Makenzie Anne Johnson, who can mow, stack wood and keep up with her Grandpa any day of the week and their father, Kevin Johnson, also Grandfather to “MZ” Matt Clark who was his weekly after school pick up who affectionately referred to him as “the old man”. Oh the sadness of all the tears in the world…..
John was married to Julie Anne Baker on September 25, 1971. In addition to his wife, children, and grandchildren, he is survived by, his brother, David Wellnitz and family, sisters, Faye (Jerry) Blohm and family, Susie (Dan) Peck and family, in-laws, Kathy and Mike Bemis and family, the Jenna, Kelly, and Richard Baugh family, the Buzz and Brandon Baker family, and the Jennie and Al Zubke family, also survived by his good friend Bruce Vanderpool with whom he shared many morning coffees and conversations.
He had many friends and an easy way of striking up conversations with strangers. He loved to laugh, it was powerful and contagious and always made the movie or joke funnier just hearing him laugh so hard. He was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, and numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, and cousins. John worked for Tecumseh Corrugated Box, Uarco, Standard Register, and Dusty’s Collision.
Cremation has taken place.
