Mary Margaret Powell, of Adrian, passed away on July 19, 2017, at the University of Toledo Medical Center. She was 95 year old. Mary was born on June 25, 1922, to Roman and Veronica (Petrosky) Osie in Lake Leelanau, MI. On June 27, 1943, Mary married Jack Powell and he preceded her in death on March 2, 2003. Mary had been employed at the former Stubnitz-Greene Springs for 32 years, retiring in 1979. Mary was an original Rosie Riveter during World War II in Detroit, MI; her interview remains in the oral history Archive at the Rosie Riveter World War II Homefront National Historical Park in Richmond, CA.
Mary was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
She is survived by two sons; Allen (Barbara) and Jack Powell; two daughters, Victoria Powell and Deborah (James) Highsmith; 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; and two brothers in Lake Leelanau, MI.
Mary was a kind and thoughtful woman who lived a simple, and truth-filled life.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, August 18, 2017 at 10:30 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Tom Murphy as celebrant.
