Obituary of Duane Potes Sr.

ADRIAN – Duane Estell Potes, Sr., age 84, of Adrian, passed away on June 10, 2017, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on November 20, 1932, in Jasper to Estel and Ailene (Vanderpool) Potes.  He married Betty Sweet on June 6, 1953, and she preceded him in death on December 11, 2011. Duane served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Japan during the Korean Conflict where he received the National Defense Service Medal.  He worked for Johnson Controls as a Senior Prototype Technician retiring in December 1994.  He was a Life Member and former Governor of the Adrian Moose Lodge #1034 and Life Member of Fairfield Masonic Lodge #125.  Duane’s hobbies included golfing, hunting, bowling, fishing, and woodworking. His number one priority was his family, whether it was spending time at his home Up North with his wife Betty or having a house full of family with a grandchild on his lap. Duane is survived by two sons, Duane Estel (Lisa) Potes Jr. of Adrian and Darwin Dean (Mary) Potes of Tecumseh; four daughters, Sheryl (Daniel) Pena of Adrian, Darlene (Myron) Voigt of Gilbert, Arizona, Brenda (Jeffrey) Betz of Adrian, and Jill (Douglas) Klann of Port Wentworth, Georgia; sister, Judith A. (Lyman) Russell of Britton; 20 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; granddaughter, Chelsea Kline; parents; brother, Wendell (Tim) Potes; sister, Evelyn Van Etten; and two siblings in infancy.            

Funeral services for Duane will be held on Wednesday, June 14, 2017, beginning at 2:00 p.m.                   at Anderson-Marry Funeral Home, Adrian with Debi Humphreys officiating. Burial will be in Palmyra Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 13, 2017, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Anderson-Marry Funeral Home, Adrian.  You may send condolences to the family at www.andersonfuneralservices.com.  Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Lenawee.  Envelopes are available at the Anderson-Marry Funeral Home, Adrian.
