ADRIAN – John H. “Butch” Bauer, age 68, of Adrian, passed away on June 9, 2017, at Hospice of Lenawee Hospice Home after a brief illness. He was born on December 19, 1948, to Elaine (Thielen) Gira. Butch attended Sand Creek Elementary School and Sutton School, graduating in 1968. His first employment was at Goodwill Industries. He then worked for 20 years and retired from Anderson Development in Adrian. In 1985, Butch moved to live with his brother Bill Gira and his wife Patti at Oldfield Farm in Sand Creek, MI. There he enjoyed being with the newborn foals, was in charge of the cats and dogs at the farm and lawn mowing. Butch loved his church family at Jasper Bible Church and looked forward to the annual camping trips. He greatly enjoyed attending the Sand Creek High School football and basketball games. Butch was an important part of the staff at the farm, helping out wherever he was needed. He traveled to many horse races and sales with his brother and other family members, including to Lexington, Kentucky and Hilton Head, South Carolina.
The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors at Bixby Hospital Critical Care Unit and the dedicated staff at Hospice of Lenawee.
John is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, William and Patti Gira; his aunt, Virginia Thielen; nieces, nephews, and cousins; his dearest friends, Diann Luck, Mike and Beebe Reno. He was a part of the Oldfield family by marriage, but was loved as a true brother by them. He is missed by his Labrador, Sonny. He was preceded in death by his mother, Elaine; step-father, Clement C. Gira; and his sister, Catherine (Bauer) Sobota.
Memorial services for Butch will be held on Thursday, June 15, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Anderson-Marry Funeral Home, Adrian with Rev. Bruce Jewett officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 14, 2017, from 5-8 p.m. at Anderson-Marry Funeral Home, Adrian. You may send condolences to the family at www.andersonfuneralservices.com.
