Blissfield - Frederick William Butler, age 93, died May 21, 2017, at his home under the loving care of his family and Hospice of Lenawee.
Fred is survived by his 3 sons, Steven (Karen) Butler of Ridgefield, WA, John Butler of Townshend, VT & Brad (Ardyth) Butler of Adrian; two sisters, Viola Sisk of WA and Irene De Buryn of Dundee, MI; 14 grandchildren, & 29 great-grand children. He is also survived by his partner Pat Landrum of Sylvania, OH. Preceding him in death were his parents, 7 brothers & 3 sisters.
He was born October 13, 1923, in Adrian, MI to Forrest Allen & Cordelia Maria (Meldrum) Butler. Fred was a lifelong resident of Lenawee Co. He served with honors in the US Navy during WW2 from Sept. 1943 until Mar. 1946. He was a moldmaker aboard the USS Piedmont, a Dixie-class Destroyer, operating in the South Pacific. Fred was also part of the occupying forces and present at the signing of the surrender of Japan.
He retired from Hydro Aluminum in 1986 after 37 years. He enjoyed dancing, golfing and gardening. He was a member of the Organ Club of Toledo and, with his friend Pat, sang with the Civic Singers of Toledo, often performing at various area organizations and retirement homes. He had been a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Fraternal Order of Eagles & the Barbershop Society of America.
Fred never missed sending a birthday or Christmas cards and he was devoted to his family. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
At Fred's request, cremation has taken place and there will be no public service. Arrangements are under the direction of Anderson Funeral Home, Adrian. A graveside memorial service will be held at a later date.
