Agnes Ruth Petkus

ADRIAN – Agnes Ruth Petkus, age 96 of Adrian, died on May 5, 2017 at home.

She was born March 17, 1921, in Detroit to Joseph and Anna (Kootsillas) Markavich. She graduated from St. Ann’s Academy in Detroit and the St. Mary’s School of Nursing. On May 8, 1948, she married Anthony Petkus in Detroit and he preceded her in death on February 23, 2009.

Agnes had been employed by Peerless Gear and Machine Division of Tecumseh Products in Clinton, as a Registered Nurse, retiring in 1983. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Council of Catholic Women at St. Joseph’s, the Women of the Moose Chapter 892, the national Council of Senior Citizens, S.A.M., and the Adrian Area Retirees.

Agnes is survived by four sons, Anthony (Deborah) Petkus of Brighton, MI, John (MaryAnn) Petkus of Fountain Hills, AZ, Richard Petkus of Adrian, and Joseph (Joan) Petkus of Adrian, MI; 9 grandchildren, Bryan, Brent, Deandra, Matthew (Amanda), Andrew (Megan), Maegan, Katie, David, and Robert and 2 great grandchildren, Kaylee and Lyla. In addition to her husband, Anthony, she was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Frank Markavich and William Markavich, and four sisters, Anne Markavich, Helen Spicknell, Marjorie Dennis, and Bernice Markavich.

The family of Agnes would like to extend their deep gratitude for the loving care of their mother by the Hospice of Lenawee staff, nurses, and Dr. Gietzen.

The Funeral Liturgy will be held on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Kurien Kollapallil as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Adrian where the Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the funeral liturgy at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
