On Sunday, April 30, 2017, Diane passed away and is resting in JESUS’ loving arms. She was born February 1, 1952, in Highland Park, MI to David S. and Catherine M. (Cripps) Ballingall. Diane moved to Lenawee County in 1983 when she entered the Adrian Dominican Sister’s where she stayed for six years. During this time she obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Religious Studies and Certification as a Chaplain. After leaving religious life, Diane developed a passion for social work and became an advocate for Mental Health. Diane started two non-profit organizations in Lenawee County, Interconnections and a local NAMI (National Association on Mental Illness). Diane worked for both Lenawee Community Mental Health Authority and New Focus. She utilized her own life with a Bipolar disorder to help educate about and reduce the Stigma associated with Mental Health. She served on many local boards and committees and became a public speaker locally, state and nationally. Diane received many awards for her advocacy on Mental Health. She was also nominated for Citizen of the Year for Lenawee County.
Diane is survived by one sister, Judith A. (Darling) Ballingall of Adrian and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, George Ballingall and a nephew, Michael Ballingall.
At Diane’s request cremation has taken place and a memorial service will take place on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home, Adrian with Rev. Wendy Bender officiating. Visitation will take place on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial to follow in Lenawee Hills Memorial Park in Adrian.
