Obituary of Gerald (Gary) Penrod
ADRIAN- Gary Penrod went to his heavenly home on March 27, 2017. He was born on August 16, 1929 in Chillicothe, Ohio to Fred and Dorothy Penrod. He was 87 years of age.
He spent four years in the Air Force during the Korean conflict. Although he was not physically able to participate in combat, he was stationed in England and worked in supply. He was the first person on that base to be named Airman of the month. He took great pride in that. He also was able to observe the coronation of Queen Elizabeth.
He married Ruth Meads on May 2, 1958 and she survives. The union lasted almost 59 years. The newly married couple moved to Chillicothe, Ohio where he successfully operated two retail businesses.
In 1966 they moved their young family back to Adrian, Michigan to be near family. He spent 23 years working for the Adrian post office. After a severe accident with a mail Jeep, he answered the Post Office phone and resolved many potential conflicts with customers. Since he was a real “people person” he thoroughly enjoyed the contact that he had with his mail customers.
