Phyllis Ann Brown, age 84, of Clayton, died Wednesday, January 3, 2018, surrounded by her children at Hospice of Lenawee Hospice Home. She was born on July 30, 1933, in Clayton, to Oakley “Doc” and Stella (Lyons) Dilworth. On June 2, 1957, she married Gene Paulus Brown. He preceded her in death on February 2, 1996.
Phyllis had been a teacher for 33 years in Clayton, Birdsall, and then in Adrian at Alexander School. She also managed the Brown Public Racing Stable for her husband, Gene. Phyllis loved teaching. After retirement, she enjoyed being a caretaker and giving to others. She was a member of the MEA and NEA, and had served as chairperson for the Clayton Summerfest and sang in the choir for the festival.
Phyllis is survived by a son, Paul E. (Shella) Brown of Adrian; a daughter, Paula Jean (Steve) Kious of Clayton; grandchildren, Nikki (Wade) Cleveland, Jason (Mary) Brown, and Darrick (Vanessa Hunley) Stone; great-grandchildren, Austin, Olivia, Brody, Hailey, and Mason; a brother, Duane Dilworth of Clayton; one sister, Elaine Brown of Adrian; as well as her caregivers, Marilyn Wilder and Sandy Cisco. In addition to her husband, Gene, she was preceded in death by her son, Patrick Neal Brown and sister, Shirley (Owen) Bohlke.
Funeral services for Phyllis will be held on Tuesday, January 9, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. at Anderson-Marry Funeral Home, Adrian with Fr. Tom Murphy officiating. Burial will be in Lenawee Hills Memorial Gardens, Tecumseh. Visitation will be held Monday, January 8, 2018, from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Anderson-Marry Funeral Home, Adrian.
