Doris Biddix

Doris L. (Ackley) Biddix, age 97, of Adrian, passed away on November 30, 2017, at MagnumCare of Adrian where she had resided since September 2015.

Doris was born on February 19, 1920, to Elza and Kitty Ackley.  She attended Adrian High School, but before graduating she met the love of her life, Earl C. Biddix, and they drove to Crown Point, Indiana, where they were married on June 19, 1938.

Doris was perfectly satisfied throughout her adult life with being Mrs. Earl Biddix.  She worked at various factories and restaurants in Adrian, but her greatest desire in life was to be wherever her husband Earl was.  For many years the couple owned a hunting cabin near Marquette, Michigan, where they spent countless weekends hunting and/or snowmobiling.  After selling that property, they purchased a cabin in the woods near Harrison, Michigan, but were force to sell it after a few years when Earl’s health began declining.

Doris loved to shop and she could look and look at merchandise and yet frequently walk out of the store with few or no purchases.  In fact, she shopped at many local stores so frequently, that many of the clerks knew her by name. After Earl’s death from a sudden heart attack on January 13, 1993, Doris’ world came crashing down and life was never the same.  She enjoyed attending Senior Citizen lunches at both the West Rome Baptist and Berean Baptist Churches and faithfully attended Sunday services at Bethany Assembly of God Church.

It became apparent in the spring of 2015 that it was no longer safe for Doris to remain in her home, so the difficult decision was made to place her in Tecumseh Place and a few months later she was transferred to MagnumCare of Adrian. While at MagnumCare, she remained interested in reading the local news in the Adrian Daily Telegram, but she also continued her great interest in watching her favorite TV programs – often until the early hours of morning.  Doris did NOT enjoy getting up in the mornings and frequerntly slept until it was time for lunch.

Doris was the last surviving member of her family. In addition to her husband, Earl, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Merle and Lee Ackley, Mildred Barker, Frances Derbyshire, and Helen Pratt, as well as Earl’s siblings, Lillian Schoonover, Rev. Floyd Biddix, Edna Dunfee, Leroy Biddex, Marguerite Morse, Grace Aebersold, Freddy Biddix, Hazel Van Valkenberg, and Raymond “Duane” Biddix.

There was no public visitation or memorial service for Doris and she was interred next to her beloved husband in the Lenawee Hills Memorial Park in Adrian, Michigan. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project.   Arrangements are under the direction of Anderson-Marry Funeral Home, Adrian.
