Francis “Dugan” Newell, age 90, of Deerfield, passed away Friday, November 4, 2017, at his home. He was born in Deerfield, MI on November 23, 1926, the son of Vernon and Grace (Tucker) Newell. On September 24, 1949 he married Wilhelmina Jane “Willie” (Osterhout) Newell and she survives. “Dugan” proudly served his country during WWII with the United States Army.
“Dugan” was employed by the Village Deerfield as a Superintendent retiring January 1, 1992. He was a member of the Deerfield Methodist Church, Deerfield American Legion and the Adrian Commandery No. 4, the River Raisin Council, York Rite College, EOS, and the Blanchard Masonic Lodge of Petersburg, MI.
Surviving “Dugan” is his wife Willie, two daughters, Pam (Randy) Purser of Deerfield, Paula (Scott) Weasel of Blissfield; 5 grandchildren, Tonya (Shane) Sieracki, Ritch (Kellie) Weasel, Jamie Weasel, Eric (Becky) Purser and Adam (Stacy) Purser; 10 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. He is preceded by his parents, a sister Wilma Hall and brothers, Donald and Norman Newell.
Funeral services for Francis “Dugan” Newell will be Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Anderson Rudd Funeral Home, Blissfield, MI with Rev. William Kreichbaum officiating. Burial will follow at the Deerfield Cemetery with full military rites conducted by the Deerfield American Legion Post 392.Visitation will be on Tuesday November 7, 2017 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. with a Masonic Lodge service to be held at 7:00 p.m. at the Anderson-Rudd Funeral Home in Blissfield.You may send condolences to the family at www.andersonfuneralservices.com.
