Eva Ann Laprise was born in Wallaceburg, Ontario, Canada on July 21, 1929 and went into the loving arms of the Lord on April 15, 2017. Eva was very proud of her Canadian heritage.
First and foremost she loved her family. She was a protective, loving and proud mother who never hesitated to tell others about her children. She showed genuine, unconditional love to all her family, especially her 6 children: Susan Vance (John), Mark Smith (Tom Richardson), Brian Smith (Kathy), Peggy Bryan (Gene), Lisa Osworth (Doug), and Jeffrey Smith (Emy); and her 14 grandchildren: Kristen, Eric, Jessica, Julie, Erin, Elizabeth, Emily, Ellen, Joshua, Jennifer, Kayla, Steven, Daniel and Anna Maria; and 12 great-grandchildren. She adored babies, calling her grands and great-grands her "chickadees" and often said there wasn't a "homely one in the bunch"!
Eva had an incredible sense of humor, was caring and kind. She was always up for a conversation, a cup of tea, and anything sweet - a slice of pie, chocolate, cookies or ice cream! We all inherited her sweet tooth.
Eve was one of the most warm and generous people to walk this earth.
She was always interested in the lives of others and within a short time, she would know all about you, your family and what was going on in your life. She always called her caregivers "honey" and was appreciative of the great care she received at Cambrian Assisted Living in Tecumseh, Michigan. The staff there went above and beyond for our beloved "Eve" for over six years. We also want to extend our gratitude to Cindy Hinkel, RN, Brian Chodoroff, MD and Azedine Medhkour, MD who literally saved her life ten years ago.
For fun, Eve enjoyed hunting down bargains at church sales and charity shops, especially Saint Vincent De Paul. She was a "ruthless" euchre player (in a good way) and wouldn't let you get away with anything! Eve was best known for her amazing apple pies, made with a mug of this and a pinch of that. She also made beautiful braided wool rugs.
Eve lived for many years at Vineyard Lake in Brooklyn, Michigan. She took pride in maintaining her adorable log cabin. Her place was very cozy and she enjoyed tending to her beautiful flowers. Many lifelong family memories were made there, earning her the nickname "Grandma Lake".
Through the highs and lows of life, Eve always had her Catholic faith to give her strength.
Eve was preceded in death by her parents, Ida and Henry Laprise, her siblings, Theresa, Rose, Lucille, Dennis, Ray and Ernie; her grandchildren, Joshua Bryan and Elizabeth Smith; and great-grandchild James Ludwig. She is survived by all six of her devoted children, twelve grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, plus many more family members here and in Canada.
Her legacy and memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. We will miss her greatly but we rejoice knowing she is with God and that we will see her again in heaven.
Funeral arrangements were provided by Anderson Funeral home in Adrian, Michigan. Visitation will be held at the chapel at De Sales Center, Brooklyn, Michigan from 11-12 a.m. on Friday, April 21st followed by a funeral mass at noon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society or the Catherine Cobb Shelter, both in Adrian, Michigan.
